This stunning example of a Kantha work shawl is made from recycled silk saris, patch-worked together on one side, and a single sari fabric on the reverse, hand stitched together to create a new fabric with thousands of tiny stitches.

Kantha originated as embroidered quilts from old cloth about a thousand years ago and were used to keep babies warm. With time this has developed into a full-fledged artform.

Biswa Bangla works with thousands of craftswomen in Birbhum district in West Bengal, India.  The increased income they receive has helped these women grow in confidence, invest in education, nutrition, health and better sanitation.

No two Kantha shawls are the same.

Fair trade and handmade.

Product specifications:

  • 880 x 2320 cm
  • recycled silk saris
