Afroza Khatun
Afroza Khatun (Papiya Begum) makes some of the most beautifully embroidered shawls you will find anywhere. We have a small collection of her work.Afroza, a vastly experienced Kantha artist, is a resident of Nanoor village in Birbhum, West Bengal. She has been working with the craft for 25 years. Married early, Afroza has emerged from just making embroidery to become a leader who teaches and provides livelihoods to 50 women. She is also training the girls of her locality in the intricacies of the craft.
Afroza has participated in fairs and exhibitions in Kolkata and other cities around India. She has also demonstrated and showcased her craft in Germany and the UK.
