Block printing
Block printing refers to the printing technique of pressing and stamping fabric with carved wooden blocks filled with color.
There are many steps involved, from carving each wooden block to preparing fabric, mixing dyes, and applying final touches.
Block printing is one of the oldest stamping methods in history and one of the best known in India, where it is widely used nowadays.In addition, each region of India has developed different variations of block printing:
- Rajasthan’s popular Dabu print, which uses the mud printing technique
- Gujarat’s Ajrakh, featuring geometric motifs, each block print is symbolic of the country’s vast heritage and rich culture
- Bagh printing from Madhya Pradesh
- Sanganer printing from Jaipur
