This dancers pendant was made especially for me by Mahesh - a lost wax bronze artisan from Chattisgargh, India.
It is threaded on silicone rubber cord, fixed with a discreet clasp. The pendant is about 5cm wide and the cord is about 68cm long.
The pendant is first modeled in wax, then covered with clay. A small clay bowl is attached to the top and is filled with small pieces of bronze. The whole unit is then fired in a simple open kiln until the bronze melts and pours down into the cavity the wax left when it was melted and burnt away.
After cooling, the bronze is cleaned up and polished. This process is repeated for each item - so these are truly one of a kind artifacts using an ancient casting technique.
