Embroidery is a rich tradition in the Kutch area, with over 42 distinct styles having been identified. These embroideries are practiced by 12 different communities.
Paako means solid. It is a tight square chain and double buttonhole stitch embroidery, often with black slanted satin stitch outlining. The motifs of Paako are primarily floral and generally arranged in symmetrical patterns. The patterns are sketched in mud with needles for guidance, and tiny mirrors are embedded in the work.
