This very lovely and rare shawl from the Himalayan region of India ticks all the boxes for us at KASU:

  • Pashmina - one of the finest fibres in the world
  • hand spun fibres - so fine!
  • hand woven fabric - a beautiful fine twill of two colours
  • fair trade - the artisans are paid well for their labours
  • natural dyes - Brazilwood* and Lac**
  • and beautiful!

Measuring 166 x 34.5cm (not including fringe), this scarf is no ordinary thing: it goes beyond fashion to the realm of future heirloom. Pashmina is one of the softest and luxurious cloths you will ever feel.

Only one in stock. Probably only one in the country. If you want it, better hurry!

*First mentioned as a dye in 1321, Brazilwood is sourced from East Indies and India. The word Brazil comes from the Spanish 'brasa', meaning glowing embers. The country of Brazil was named after the wood found there, not the other way round. Asian Brazilwood is grown in managed plantations, and is unlikely to be endangered.

**Lac - a sticky, resinous secretion of the tiny lac insect, Laccifer lacca, a species of scale insect. This insect is cultivated on Kusumbh and Tesu trees and has been used as a natural dye in South Asia and India since the beginning of recorded History.

Being hand made, there may be minor variations in colour and design.
